Visiting A Montana Wild Elk Range

My husband and I love Montana and have visited that beautiful and wild state many times.

We have friends who live in Lewistown,  which is located in Central Montana.  It is a town of 6,000 people who are fortunate enough to be able access some wonderful sights.

One of these is a Wild Elk range which located about sixty miles outside of Lewistown.

A Phone Call Sends Us Hunting

We were enjoying a little ice cream social with our friends and another couple when the phone rang.

It turned out that this call was informing all of us that the Elk were gathering out on the range.  If we wanted to see them, we needed to head out there immediately.

It was a long, slow ride and was dusk by the time we arrived.

It felt like we were in the middle of No Man's Land.

There was nothing out there:  no stores, no houses, not even any people!

The air was turning cool, as Montana nights do, and the sun was beginning to set when we spied the Elk herd.

It was an amazing site.

An Unbelievable Sight

There, in the valley below the road on which we were parked, were hundreds and hundreds of Elk slowly grazing and walking lazily through the lush grasses.

The wind grew strong and out of nowhere, the rains came, so we had to pile back into our cars and head back.

The sight we saw that night was like none other and was one most travelers would never get to see.

We just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
